James has campaigned on lowering taxes and on cultural issues, including supporting a ban on same-sex marriage. Also expected to be a contender is Tim James, a businessman who is the son of a former governor who lost previous primaries for the office in 20. Blanchard initially campaigned for the open Alabama Senate seat before deciding to run for governor instead in December. Ivey is favored to win the primary, and Trump has not endorsed his former appointee.
